Renewals

Renewal by Mail

The Board also accepts paper renewals and checks payable to the WV Board of Architects.  To be considered on time, all renewals by mail should be postmarked by June 30th.  Access the paper renewal form. This year, renewals by mail must be accompanied by either an AIA transcript from calendar year 2024 or certificates from 2024 with the HSW designation demonstrating the applicant has completed 12 health, safety, and welfare continuing education hours in 2024.

Late Renewals - Login to Renew Now

Renewals made online or postmarked after June 30th are considered late renewals and are $150.00.  Late renewals may be made online or by paper.  As a result of rule changes effective July 1, 2020, late renewals can only be executed until December 31.  When a renewal is not completed on time, architects become responsible for disclosing any unlicensed practice, which is anything that qualifies as the practice of architecture as defined in WV Code after the registration expires and before it is renewed.

Reinstatement

Non-renewed registrations are considered inactive and expired.  Effective July 1, 2020, inactive architects who have been registered in West Virginia may reinstate their certificates if they pursue reinstatement after six months of being inactive and prior to five years from when their registration expires.

If you need to reinstate your registration, contact Emily.B.Papadopoulos@wv.gov to have a reinstatement application added to your online account.  To complete a reinstatement, applicants document that they have completed 12 hours of continuing education in Health, Safety, and Welfare topics each year for the last two calendar years. Applicants also upload a letter to the Board indicating if the applicant has practiced architecture as defined by WV Rules and Laws during the period the license was inactive.
